Founded in 1870, in Providence, Rhode Island, Gilbane Building Company began as a small, family-operated carpentry firm known for building high-quality homes, mansions, and other public structures. Over the past 150 years, Gilbane has expanded to more than 50 offices worldwide, including Chicago, where the firm has been building for over 40 years.

Gilbane provides a full slate of construction and facilities-related services, from preconstruction planning and integrated consulting capabilities to comprehensive construction management, general contracting, design-build and facility management services. The company as a whole is particularly dedicated to progressing facilities related to healthcare and education, while maintaining a commitment to the environment through sustainable building. Within the greater Chicago area, Gilbane has led the development of several significant projects across these industries, including The University of Chicago Medicine Center for Care and Discovery, Illinois Institute of Technology Student Housing Program, The Orchard Private Residences, Will County Courthouse and various projects for Adlai E. Stevenson High School District 125 – to name a few.

Gilbane Chicago is dedicated to progressing the city and its surrounding areas through more than just construction. Dedicated to giving back to the community, the chapter has raised more than $1 million to donate to local Chicago charities. Additionally, Gilbane Chicago was named as one of Engineering News-Record Midwest Top 10 contractors in Illinois.
