2022 Spring Summit & Safety Awards

2022 Spring Summit & Safety Awards

Wednesday, May 18, 2022 (11:30 AM - 2:00 PM) (CDT)

Description

Please join us in-person for CAGC's annual Spring Summit!

Chicagoland AGC operates its Safety Award program to recognize General and Specialty contractors for outstanding safety performance. We look forward to honoring this year’s recipients at the Spring Summit on May 18th.

The luncheon will culminate in a keynote presentation by member firm Segal in light of the changed workplace. Employers traditionally offered a “social contract” to employees that required them to give up certain freedoms in exchange for something of value.  Originally, employees agreed to work in exchange for wages, but expectations evolved to also include minimum wages, safety standards, employee benefits and other employment protections.  As each generation of workers enters the labor force, and as technology continues to advance, the evolution of the employer-employee social contract continues to evolve.

Workers in High Demand Are Now Calling the Shots...over the past two years, much of the conversation about the changing social contract has focused on wages, social protections and supports. Workers with skills in high demand are asking potential employers for more of what is meaningful to them — namely, higher wages, more flexibility, childcare support, robust health and retirement programs and clearly defined career paths. They are also seeking jobs with empathetic leadership and an inclusive culture that creates a sense of belonging.  Those who don’t find what they seek at work are choosing to look elsewhere.

What Can Employers Do? During this presentation, we will consider the causes of the labor shortage and explore the following key questions that contractors should consider as they compete in the current labor market:

  • What would it take to get our best employees to stay?
  • What makes our organization appealing?
  • Do our job requirements make sense?

There will be time for questions and dialogue after the presentation so that CAGC members can hear about workplace challenges that others are facing as well as any potential creative solutions that others have initiated.
